The Mad, Mad, Mad World of Climatism is the first book on climate change that is fun to read. Using figures, cartoons, and whimsical sidebars, Steve Goreham describes our crazy world, which is far down the primrose path of global warming fantasy. Contrary to popular consensus, global warming is natural and cars are innocent. But this book is not short on science. Goreham uses charts, graphs, and references to dozens of scientific papers to support his arguments. He shows that icecap melting, stronger storms, polar bear extinction, and many other climate fears are unfounded. At the same time, his large collection of zany pictures and quotes grabs the reader’s interest. Learn the real story about climate change.

Steve Goreham has made a major contribution to countering the unjustified alarmism about so-called “anthropogenic [man-made] global warming”, for destroying the myth about the “science being settled” (anyone with a modicum of education or intelligence knows that science is never “settled”, but constantly under review in the light of newly discovered truths). He correctly defines the political and non-scientific basis on which the UN IPCC operates, and reminds us that carbon dioxide is a life-giving trace gas, and certainly not a pollutant. Everyone with a concern for the future of Planet Earth, and especially young people, should read this book.

This fine book has an overall rating of only 3 1/2 stars because the minions from the church of ManBearPig have come forth to silence the Deniers. It is interesting to note that a fair number of the book’s critics have not bothered to read it, but are content to base their shrill reviews on a cursory skimming. I can picture their apoplectic rage, causing them to leave spittle on their monitor, as Sylvester The Cat might do while pounding out their self righteous critiques.

Now to the book. In the first part, Mr. Goreham introduces the many individuals and organizations that support the idea of AGW. He does this in a respectful way, without any “smirking”, as some have suggested. After that, he proceeds to address every aspect of the debate, from A to Z, in a reasoned presentation of facts, that any first rate courtroom attorney would envy. Some have accused the author of not being a scientist. I believe that his MS in Electrical Engineering provide more than ample credentials in science, and its applications in the real world. His ability to understand the nuances of the scientific method in determining causal relationships far greater than that of ALGOR.

Readers may consider reading the last couple of pages of the book before starting at the beginning. These point out that many well meaning adherents of AGM are prompted by the “Precautionary Principle”. Unfortunately, in a world with finite resources, and the many worthy needs clamoring for them; we cannot afford to spend untold sums on an unproven calamity.

I have loaned my copy of this very readable book to a friend who is a believer in AGW, with a request that he keep a writing tablet nearby, so that he might jot down any factual errors, or items that he disagrees with. It will be interesting to see what he comes up with. As with a couple of other books that I have been taken with, I may buy a second copy to make part of my personal lending library. At my request. the Phoenix Public Library is in the process of adding this book to its collection.

The debate is not over. Note that Mr. Goreham has offered to debate his opponents, with no takers thus far.

Should be required reading for all Americans between the ages of 18-40.
Readers will be shocked that the north pole ice cap is about 1% of the planet’s ice.

  4. Michael Bridges

The author did an excellent job of comparing actual empirical evidence that can be observed, measured and repeated, with the claims of the man made global warming alarmists based on their computer models. The information was very well researched and had some humor sprinkled in to make the information more enjoyable to read. I highly recommend this book to everyone interested in understanding the warming and cooling trends that are natural and normal over time and how the scare over mans additional CO2 is politics being exalted over the actual evidence that can be measured in the upper atmosphere.
